[Frowns a little] When I was in the academy, there was this one guy in our class who was way too interested in the “punishment” side of “crime and punishment”. He asked a lot of questions about execution - the electric chair, lethal injection, even firing squads at one point. Seeing as Michigan hasn’t had the death penalty for over a hundred years, there was seriously no reason for him to ask about it.

I think we all breathed a sigh of relief when he dropped out.

Anonymous asked: Drawing

[Smiles] Last year, I visited the community center where my aunt works to give the kids a talk about safety. Afterward, I found out they were working on a mural about the city and its people, and they wanted to include me to represent the police. So I ended up standing around for a while so they could draw and paint me into the picture.

That’s the kind of thing that makes my job worthwhile.

… Sorry. I’ve got way, way too many memories associated with that word to pick just one.

Christmas, the year I was nine. We were at my grandma’s place. She’d gotten me a big set of fancy-colored crayons, and given my little sister Ramona this really adorable baby-doll. [Chuckles] I wanted that doll the moment she unwrapped it. And the thing is, Ramona’s always been a lot more artsy than me. I offered to trade her the crayons for the doll, and she was happy to go along with it.

[Frowns] We didn’t know you weren’t supposed to swap presents. When Grandma found out, she was so mad, even though she’d already given them to us, and we’d been nice and thanked her for them. [Thinks, And it was her fault for not payin’ attention to what we liked.]

[[ ^___^ Thank you, Inu. I’m especially glad the sense of vulnerability and flaws come through - Danielle may be tough, but she’s far from perfect, and I’ve tried to convey that in my writing. Glad it’s working :) ]]
